Olympics: J. J. Shobha improves to 12th in heptathlon 22.35 IST 21st Aug 2004

J J Shobha put up a fine performance in long jump to climb to the 12th overall position after five Heptathlon events at the Olympic Games in Athens today.
Shobha, who finished 20th after four events yesterday, leapt 6.36m in long jump to take the second place in her heat at the Olympic Stadium.
Shobha picked up 962 points from the event to boost her tally to 4560.
The other Indian entrant, Soma Biswas remained 26th clearing 5.92m in the event to log 825 points and take her tally to 4273.
Overnight leader Carolina Kluft of Sweden maintained her numero uno status as she lunged 6.78m to add 1099 points to her tally which now stands at 5208.
Briton Kelly Sotherton (4879) and Austra Skujyte of Lithuania (4703) were in the second and third spots respectively.
