17.05 IST   28th Aug 2003

By IndiaExpress Bureau

Star striker Baichung Bhutia, currently on a foreign club assignment in Malaysia, has been hospitalised in Kuala Lumpur with high fever.

Bhutia was hospitalised on Wednesday after playing a match of the Malaysian Cup.

"We are waiting for details of the nature of Bhutia's ailment and his present condition," East Bengal Club President Pranab Dasgupta said in Kolkata on Thursday.

Bhutia, taken on loan from East Bengal by top Malaysian outfit Perak FC, was reportedly fielded against Malaka despite having a mild fever.

Perak won the tie 5-0 but Bhutia, who played for the entire 90 minutes, had to be admitted to a local hospital immediately after the match.
