16.30 IST   21st July 2001

By IndiaExpress Bureau

India's star Striker Baichung Bhutia has said that he will not play for India in the team's exposure tour to England starting next week.

Bhutia currently playing for second division English club Bury F C told a television channel that the All India Football Federation had not been able to secure his release for the four match exposure tour to England, starting on July 24 against second division side Brendford F C at Griffin Park.

Bhutia however remained optimistic of playing for India in the inaugural Afro-Asian Games in November.

Bhutia has been named captain of the 22-member team that landed in England on Friday to play exposure matches against English clubs including first division Nottingham Forest.
