Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and playback singer Manna Dey were today conferred the Deenanath Mangeshkar award for their contribution to films and music.
The award, instituted in memory of Deenanath Mangeshkar, father of Lata Mangeshkar, were presented by the playback singer on his 63rd death anniversary at Shanmukhanand Hall in Mumbai today.
The award consists of Rs 50,000 in cash and a memento. The Deenanath Mangeshkar Pratishthan, which has instituted the award, said it would also henceforth give recognition to back stage artistes.
Santoor maestro Pt Shivkumar Sharma, social activist Abhay Bang, litterateur D M Mirasdar and theatre company Chandralekha, were also conferred the award.
Noted playwright Mohan Wagh and litterateur D M Mirazdar were among other awardees.
