This is the fifth attempt by Salman to secure bail. His plea for freedom had been rejected four times since his arrest on September 28. Salman's bail petition was filed by eminent criminal lawyer Harshad Ponda. It will come up for hearing on October 23 before sessions judge P V Bavkar. Seeking liberty, 37-year-old Salman pleaded that he was a popular hero in Hindi films since last 14 years and an income tax payer. The actor said that he was one of the breadwinners of his family and had roots in the city. As a cine artist, his presence in Mumbai was essential. Alluding to the prosecution's opposition to his bail in a sessions court, the actor said that allegation of police about his tampering with witnesses was baseless. Even the Supreme Court had laid down that allegation of tampering could not be a ground to refuse bail unless it was substantiated by the prosecution, the actor's petition said. The actor said that charge-sheet had been filed against him on October 21 in a Magistrate's court. And, as this was not a case, which fell within, the four corners of section 304 (2) IPC, he should be granted bail. in-depth coverage > Salman Khan's Road Rage > |
