Bollywood star Salman Khan surrendered at the Bandra Police station in Mumbai on Monday. He has been charged for culpable homicide, not amounting to murder in the Bombay High Court in connection with the car accident that killed one and left four injured in Bandra on September 28. Salman’s arrest became imminent in the wake of the statement made by Advocate General Goolam Vahanvati in Bombay High Court that the charge under Section 304 of Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) would be applicable in Salman’s hit and run case. The charge, if proved guilty, would mean a maximum punishment of 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment besides a fine. Meanwhile, the High Court has given a direction to Salman on a public interest litigation seeking compensation for the victims. Salman has been ordered by the court to pay interim compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the person killed. Justice Ajit Shah and Justice Ranjana Desai have ordered the Bollywood star to pay Rs three lakh as compensation to the seriously injured and Rs 1.5 lakh each to the persons who sustained simple injury in the accident. in-depth coverage > Salman Khan's Road Rage > |
