InDepth headlines national business sports cricket regional entertainment technology world travel autos health | Test shows traces of alcohol in Salman’s blood 19.43 IST 01st Oct 2002 By IndiaExpress Bureau The medical test conducted on actor Salman Khan who reportedly drove his car into a bakery, killing one person and injuring four others, has "revealed traces of alcohol in his blood", according to Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Javed Ahmed. Mr. Ahmed, who is probing the case, said on Tuesday, "The test has ascertained traces of alcohol in the blood that were beyond the permissible limits.” He, however declined to give the exact percentage of the alcohol detected in the blood. Interestingly, Salman himself had in a statement to the police, denied having consumed alcohol on the ill-fated day. Salman had allegedly been partying at a popular night spot before the incident. He had allegedly halted again at another hotel to meet a friend, where he had consumed a couple of drinks for the second time. Eyewitnesses say Salman himself was driving the vehicle when he allegedly rammed into the bakery at around 03:00 hours (IST) on September 28. The actor’s lawyer has however denied the charge. Salman is said to have fled the scene after the accident and surrendered before the police at around 11:00 hours (IST). He had been taken for an alcohol test a few hours later, stirring up a controversy that the test would perhaps fail to produce evidence of alcohol owing to the time lapse between consumption and the actual test. The actor was later released on bail after furnishing Rs 950 and a surety. |
