InDepth headlines national business sports cricket regional entertainment technology world travel autos health | Sena to ‘snake out’ Kaante 17.03 IST 30th Aug 2002 By IndiaExpress Bureau The Shiv Sena is at it with unfailing regularity. This time the victim of the party’s anger is the film 'Kaante'. The Sena on Friday threatened to unleash venomous snakes in theatres showing the movie, allegedly financed by people connected with the underworld. Dharnas, demonstrations and tying black bands on arms, the old methods of protest, are passé, the Sainiks feel. Hence the novel protest of releasing snakes in halls showing 'Kaante', party leader Nanak Ram Thavani told reporters. The Shiv Sainiks had earlier registered their protest against the film, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, by burning posters and courting arrest, Thavani said. An official spokesman said the administration and police would take appropriate steps to maintain law and order. The Sena submitted a memorandum to Governor Anshuman Singh on Thursday demanding a ban on release of the film in Rajasthan. They want the movie to be banned as earnings from exhibition of the movie would go to "criminal mafias and underworld people," Thavani said. |
