| Vastu-correctives for harmonious life By Pandit P K Sharma While redoing your residence or your office, it is both logical and profitable to follow the principles laid down by the ancient Indian art of Vastu. RELATED SITES & STORIESVastu says that man must exist in harmony with nature to gain maximum benefit from the forces of nature, and to eliminate their harmful impact. It is seen that modern residences and offices are ill-planned from the Vastu point of view, leading to disharmony, lack of efficiency and failure. Turning a wrongly-planned house or office into one that is in keeping with the principles of Vastu need not be an expensive process, for, a few correctives in keeping with some rules of the thumb can bring immediate and discernible benefit. Take for instance the location of the beds in the house. According to Vastu, the beds should be so placed that the head of the person sleeping on them point to the south and the feet to the north. Very often, one finds that the rooms are designed in such a way that this is not possible. If the head points the wrong way, the magnetic force inside the earth creates disharmony for the person sleeping on the bed. When a person sleeps on a disharmoniously placed bed for years, it creates disharmony in his life, as also health problems, including constant headache and irritability. Now, placing the beds with the head pointing south is a simple, inexpensive corrective. Now, take the place in the house where a person spends the maximum time in the morning. This should be located in the spot where the rays of the morning sun are received. Suppose, this is not possible in a flat, at least the window that faces in the direction of the morning sun can be opened, or the curtains drawn apart and a cozy sitting arrangement created there where family members can sit with each other in the morning. This will make a world of a difference and give a boost to the entire day. And, where should the kitchen be located? In the south-east corner of the house, says Vastu, for the fire or heat would be located there and it had best be in this part of the house. In today's era of microwaves, this is again a minor corrective. Where should the master-bedroom of the house be? It should be in the south-west corner of the house, it should preferably be occupied by the seniors in the house. Vastu says that if the master-bedroom is in the south-east corner, there will be constant quarrels and the husband and wife will quarrel over trivial matters. This change is also easily done, at hardly any cost. As a thumb rule, Vastu says that a window or a door in the south-western corner of the house should be closed. If a door or window exists in this part of the house, it is advisable to bar it, so that the rays of the falling sun are kept out. You may also keep the heavy things (like big almirahs) in this corner of the house, rather than anywhere else. These are but a few principles of vastu than can easily be followed. If these minor correctives can make some difference, the effort would be well worth it. IndiaExpress.Com - Beliefs | ![]() |
