Vastu-correctives for harmonious life

By Pandit P K Sharma

While redoing your residence or your office, it is both logical and profitable to follow the principles laid down by the ancient Indian art of Vastu.

Vastu says that man must exist in harmony with nature to gain maximum benefit from the forces of nature, and to eliminate their harmful impact.

It is seen that modern residences and offices are ill-planned from the Vastu point of view, leading to disharmony, lack of efficiency and failure. Turning a wrongly-planned house or office into one that is in keeping with the principles of Vastu need not be an expensive process, for, a few correctives in keeping with some rules of the thumb can bring immediate and discernible benefit.

Take for instance the location of the beds in the house. According to Vastu, the beds should be so placed that the head of the person sleeping on them point to the south and the feet to the north. Very often, one finds that the rooms are designed in such a way that this is not possible. If the head points the wrong way, the magnetic force inside the earth creates disharmony for the person sleeping on the bed. When a person sleeps on a disharmoniously placed bed for years, it creates disharmony in his life, as also health problems, including constant headache and irritability.

Now, placing the beds with the head pointing south is a simple, inexpensive corrective.

Now, take the place in the house where a person spends the maximum time in the morning. This should be located in the spot where the rays of the morning sun are received. Suppose, this is not possible in a flat, at least the window that faces in the direction of the morning sun can be opened, or the curtains drawn apart and a cozy sitting arrangement created there where family members can sit with each other in the morning. This will make a world of a difference and give a boost to the entire day.

And, where should the kitchen be located? In the south-east corner of the house, says Vastu, for the fire or heat would be located there and it had best be in this part of the house.

In today's era of microwaves, this is again a minor corrective.

Where should the master-bedroom of the house be? It should be in the south-west corner of the house, it should preferably be occupied by the seniors in the house. Vastu says that if the master-bedroom is in the south-east corner, there will be constant quarrels and the husband and wife will quarrel over trivial matters.

This change is also easily done, at hardly any cost.

As a thumb rule, Vastu says that a window or a door in the south-western corner of the house should be closed. If a door or window exists in this part of the house, it is advisable to bar it, so that the rays of the falling sun are kept out. You may also keep the heavy things (like big almirahs) in this corner of the house, rather than anywhere else.

These are but a few principles of vastu than can easily be followed. If these minor correctives can make some difference, the effort would be well worth it.

It has been nice to have you on this site. We at indiaexpress.com endeavor to bring you prompt coverage of the cricket matches. we will continue to do the same on wednesday.
Where ever you are in this wide world, which is one big family, we wish you a good day.
Bye for now.

And, yes. The final match will be between the two top teams, only the worst team getting eliminated. That means that if India prevails over Sri Lanka, it may meet the world champions in the finals, which will be the real thing.

Of course, the format of the three nation tournament is such that each team plays two matches each against the other two teams. So, India will play one more match against Australia, and will get a chance to avenge today's humiliation.

If it is any consolation for India, The world champion Aussies have also beaten hosts Sri Lanka. Thus, the India-Sri Lanka match on Wednesday will be the focus of attention.

Australia has won this match against India in great style. At no stage did India look anything like winning this match, or even being on top. Beaten in all departments of the game, Tendulkar and his boys will have to come up with something special, so as not to be called mediocre.
Over: 30
Australia needs 2 more runs to win.
That single on the no ball does it.
Australia has won.
Over: 29               Score: 155 / 2   RRate: 5.34
That was a brilliant catch that Drivid took to dismiss Gilchrist. He jumped up at wide mid-on, and snapped the ball in his outstretched hands.
Over: 29
Indian fielding has collapsed. Chopra allowed a boundary he could easily have stopped. Gilchrist on 68, he is caught at mid on by Dravid off Ganguly's bowling.
Second Australian wicket finally down.
Over: 29
Australia now needs nine runs from 60 balls to win this match.
Over: 28               Score: 151 / 1   RRate: 5.39

Over: 28
That is 150 up for Australia.
Over: 28
Australia now needs 10 runs from 65 balls to win this match.
Over: 27               Score: 148 / 1   RRate: 5.48
Symonds has again hit Robin in the same area, completely crossbatted, for a four. Is he finishing off the match?
Over: 27
Now Symonds has hit Robin over mid wicket for a four. This Symonds hits so hard with barely a backlift.
Over: 26
The Indian fielders appear dejected. Australia, the world champions, are about to win over India once again, and easily.
But the format of the AIWA three-nation cup allows a second chance. India will play one more match with Australia.
Of course, this performance makes India's two encounters with the hosts Sri Lanka more crucial.
Over: 26
Prasad being brought back into bolwing attack
Over: 25               Score: 135 / 1   RRate: 5.4

Over: 24               Score: 133 / 1   RRate: 5.54
Australia needs just 26 more runs to win this match.

Over: 23
Australia needs 31 runs from 91 balls to win this match against India.
Over: 23
Gilchrist is on 55 runs and Symonds on 52.

Australia needs just 38 more runs to win this match from 17 overs with nine wickets in hand. Just a formality now.

Over: 21
In the India-Australia AIWA cup encounter, Australia is cruising to victory. Set a modest victory target of 159 in 38 overs in a rain curtailed match, the Aussies are 119 for 1 in 20.1 overs.
