Bollywood mega-hit ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ is the most popular movie among Non Resident Indians in US. It won most of the big awards including best picture award at a ceremony held in New York.

The awards were presented at a glittering ceremony where world famous pop singer Michael Jackson was honoured with Humanitarian Award.

Shahrukh Khan was himself there to receive the award for best actor in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Kajol won the honour for best actress in the film but could not make it to New York to receive the award.

The film was also chosen as best film. The movie’s director Karan Johar won best director award. Anupam Kher was chosen as the best supporting actor in ‘Salaakhen’. The best comedian award went to Satish Kaushik for his role as Govinda’s friend in ‘Pardesi Babu’.

Shilpa Shetty won the award for best supporting actress for her role in 'Pardesi Babu' and Pooja Bhatt bagged the critics’ award for the best actress in 'Zakhm.'

Critics’ award for best actor went to Ajay Devgan for his role in ‘Zakhm’ film.

Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawala won honours for best sensational performances. Juhi Chawala’s selection came as a surprise as she was not included in the list of those nominated for the category. Nominations were for Pooja Bhatt for ‘Zakhm’, Manisha Koirala for ‘Dil Se’ and Kajol for ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’.

Fardeen Khan for his role in ‘Prem Agaan’ and Preeti Zinta for her role in ‘Solider’ were given awards for best promising newcomers.
