| 'Mohabbatein's music lacks freshness By Tanuka Chakraverty
Directed By : Aditya Chopra Lyrics: Anand Bakshi Music: Jatin-Lalit Rating : Time Pass
Yash Raj films have always been sources of some of Hindi films' soulful melodies. Waqt, Daag, Kabhie Kabhie, Trishul, Silsila, Faasle and Chandni. They all sift through layers of stirring and tender compositions.
Darr and Lamhe managed to stick to the mushy and melodious tradition that the Yash films had set up. But with Dilwale Dulhaniya…. the music started looking different. Dilwale..'s music was a clear departure from the music of Yash Chopra's earlier films. The archetypical music of Yashraj films was undergoing a change.
Change is inevitable, and also good, but only as long as it yields good results. But Yash Chopra's films began to bear a jaded musical score. Since Dilwale.., all his films songs sounded similar, sans melody, tune and vigor.
Lata Mangeshkar is, undoubtedly the queen of melody, but we must acknowledge her ageing vocal chords that can no more create magic as they did years ago. Her voice now wavers, sometimes acutely unstable in humming the long solo notes.
Mohabbatein brings with itself a kitty of this genre of music. Though the film's musical score aims to touch hearts and give a fresh look to love and lovers, there's a huge question mark here. Will Jatin and Lalit be able to fulfill the task?
Frankly, no. Mohabbatein's music comes as a big disappointment to all those who waited for its music release. Firstly, there is the humdrum tune emitting from the violin that reminds us of a host of other songs from Yash Chopra's films. And the number 'Humko humhi se chura lo' is a straight take off from Diwale….'s 'Ho gaya hai tujhko to pyaar sajna'.
There are reminders of Dil To Paagal Hai's 'Bholi si surat' in the number 'Aankhen khuli'. 'Zinda rehti hai mohabbatein' is okay. And the rest of the music gets lost in a series of chorus. Whether it is 'Chalte chalte', 'Soni soni' or 'Pairon mein bandhan', they all sound alike.
In a nutshell, the wait for the music of Mohabbatein has not been its worth. Anyways, the wait for the film continues till the movie hits theatres on October 27. And going by the experience of Dilwale…, Aditya Chopra's Mohabbatein should be a Diwali delight. Song Names: Humko humhi se chura lo
Aankhen khuli
Zinda rehti hai mohabbatein
