The film "Sultaan" is for those who like action. Aging actors Dharmender and Mithun Chakraborty play front runners in this saga of violence and bloodletting.

The "Sultaan" in the title is none other than the honest police inspector, Sultan Rasool Baksh, played by Dharmendar. The circumstances force Sultan to give up his job and disguise himself as a real "Sultaan" and fight all forces of evil.

Dharmendra seems to have lost all faith in the police.

Mithun plays the role of Abhimanyu, the police inspector son of Havaldar Balram.

Raza Murad plays the character of Veerbhadra Rudranarayan, the underworld Don. He has five sons who surpass eath other in being slimy. They hatch a plan to eliminate Abhimanyu's entire family.

To take revenge, Abhimanyu burns Roopshankar's (one of Don's sons) face.

Now, Mithun leaves for Meerut where he works in a garage, whose owner, Ayesha, is in love with him.

The plot has its twists, as one character disguises himself as "Sultan" and the other as "Kabeera". This saga of emotion and action, involving a prolonged clash between Dharmender and Mithun, is sorted out only in the end with the real identities being established.
