TISL announces innovative microprocessor
Tata Information Systems Limited (TISL) has announced a new Pentium microprocessor, the 6x86MX that offers enhanced performance over Intel chips while offering PC manufacturers cost savings upto 25 per cent. The IBM 6x86MX is fully compatible with the newest series of Pentium chips and comes in three versions: PR166, PR200 and PR233. All three chips incorporate MMX technology -multimedia instructions added to the chip architecture - and other enhancements that improve performance on audio, video and graphic applications. The PR stands for Performance Rating - an industry measurement which shows that the IBM 6x86MX outperforms Intel's Pentium II and Pentium-processors. The new IBM chips offer an additional advantage: they run at lower speeds or megahertz, reducing power usage and heat. The PR233 for example outperforms the Pentium II at 233 MHz and costs about $150 less.
