Rockwell to launch modem chips

Rockwell Semiconductor Systems has announced that it would launch two new products in the Zip Wire Modem Chip family, the Bt8954 and VPG-4 at the forthcoming information technology event of Asis, IT India '97/COMDEX to be held at New Delhi from December 3-6. (Courtesy The Times of India )

Tata IBM launches Netfinity

Indian computing giants Tata IBM has announced the launch of Netfinity brand of servers - the first industry-standard enterprise servers designed to tightly integrate technology leadership with innovative services. These servers will deliver the performance, reliability and investment protection, that enterprises of all sizes require, to optimize their Information Technology (IT) investments. IBM Netfinity is designed to make it easier for businesses of all sizes to harness the power of the Internet and other networks to meet their business challenges, a release said.

Software parks plan to achieve ten-fold growth in exports

The Software Technology Parks of India (STP) plan to grow ten-fold in software exports to achieve a turnover of $24,000 million by the turn of the century.

The STP exports revenue has increased from Rs 727 crore in 1995-96 to Rs 1,780 crore in 1996-97, showing a growth rate of 145 per cent.

The total software export earnings in these two years were Rs 2,550 crore and Rs 3,700 crore.

The STP anticipates to exceed its target export revenue of around Rs 3,000 crore by the end of 1997-98.

New DeskPros from Compaq

Compaq Computer (India) Pvt Ltd, as part of the parent company's worldwide launch, announced new DeskPro PCs featuring Intel Pentium II processors and enhanced intelligent manageability features.

Further, the company became the first manufacturer to ship a Net PC. The new desktops allow businesses to manage distributed PC networks from a central console and assert a higher level of control over the end-user environment. The company is also offering a form factor desktop, which is approximately two-third the size of traditional PCs for workspace constrained environments.

Pentafour launches Penta Media

Pentafour Software and Exports on Monday announced the launch of Penta Media, a complete multimedia suite to author business presentations. Announcing the launch of Penta Media here, Pentafour Head (Products and R&D) H.P. Sharath Kumar said the tool includes authoring facility for audio and video files," he said. The company also announced the launch of Penta Guru, an Internet-based software that facilitates implementation of distance learning over the Net and PentaBank, an integrated relationship banking system built on client/server technology to take care of total branch automation.

Intel launches new products

Intel has launched the industry's first family of single-chip fast ether net adapters that will help high performance PCs carry out network communications tasks upto 30 per cent more efficiently than with other adapters and enable advanced PC management functions. The two new products - the EtherExpress PRO/100+ and a management enabled adapter, represent Intel's third generation of award-winning Fast Ether net adapters and are based on Intel's 82558 chip.

Imagine IT launches Net.Point

Imagine IT, Bangalore, has announced the launch of Net.Point a Windows utility that automatically connects to the Internet and provides unattended access to E-mail, FTP and WWW servers. By automating common Internet tasks, Net.Point can save a lot of time and help reduce on-line costs and is aimed at both home and business users who access Internet through a service provider.
