Govt contemplating excise duty on networks

In an attempt which is being interpreted as yet another move to extort more moolah from infotech companies, the government is reportedly contemplating imposing excise duties on computer networking (of all kinds).

Currently, the only charge levied on networking equipment is sales tax. The government is now justifying the proposal to impose excise duty on networks, saying that these are "integrated products" and not just a service.
