
Bangalore chosen as distant learning centre For the first time in India, Bangalore, along with Hyderabad, has been picked up for the pilot project of setting up distant learning centre to teach advanced computer science and engineering courses.
Speaking to The Times of India News Service Santa Cruz University of California Professor of Music and Division of Art Dean Edward F Houghton said their university had set up a distant learning centre in California and as part of its expansion programme and enlarging its scope had identified India, China, South East Asia and Latin America for this initiative.
India has been given the priority because India has pushed the proposal very vigorously and since most of the Indians working in Silicon Valley wished to give back to their country and culture something that they have garnered over the years.
He said the centre would be in place once the mode of technologies are improved and the required bandwidth is ensured so that classroom learning experience can soon be taken to distant shores across continents.
FKCCI special projects committee chairman K M Srinivasa Murthy speaking to The Times of India News Service said the chamber had offered to allocate the required space at the new international township - Shanti Niketan coming up near the International Software Technology Park near White field.
