Bay Networks to launch 'LAN city' cable modems

Bay Networks, a global provider of internet working solutions, is to launch the 'LAN city '' range of cable modems in the country. Before that, however, Bay will be launching 'NetGear' to address the lower end of the local and wide area networking market.

The cable modems would enable cable television operators to get ready to become Internet Service Providers and, among other things, enable them to provide data such as stock prices, railway and air reservation details and weather reports to subscribers, unlike the case at present.

"We are talking to some major cable operators. The cable modems will ensure that cable TV services, now differentiated by numbers (of channels and subscribers), will be differentiated by value too," said Mr Anand Pillai, country manager, India, Bay Networks International Inc.
