Bangalore's music scene

Bangalore's music scene, has due to it's cosmopolitan flavour, remained, (even with the invasion of MTV and Channel V) a delightful mix of the old and new. While one pub belts out techno the other might be a shrine to Dave Brubeck. And then you have autos dishing out the latest in filmi leg(make that hip) shakers and the Catholic Club swinging to the tune of the sixties.

Leading the musical array are a handful of bands, dancers, entertainment groups and ofcourse ... Bangalore's very own, much adored, ever so popular, in some cases worshipped Disc Jockeys. There's Ivan, and Ashish and Rahul and straight from The Heart of Darkness - Sunder. Half Ghanian, half Indian and... as he puts it half a wit.
Somehow those figures just don't add up. Anyway half wit or not...Su has his devoted following - mostly female ofcourse. Which can get a little bit much, as this was the reason that broke up his marriage. Regrets - None! In Sunder's own words to all the panting female population - "Dont ever marry a **#@$*@% like me."

Sunder's been Deejaying for the last eight years now in Bangalore. He got the famous and now dearly departed Knock Out going. And Concorde - the disco(the only one in the garden city at the moment) next to the airport. Now he does shows and want's to get back into dancing - ladies eat your heart out - this one is a professional dancer, and a good looking one to boot. In the mean time he owns and runs a small time library and gift shop. Why? He loves to read. And adores a game of scrabble. And cheats like hell at Dumbcharades and Pictionary. Not quite what one might expect from a happening DJ. But that's Sunder. One of Bangalore's music Mahatmas. His tastes run to Country Western but he plays a wide variety of music wherever he plays, going by crowd mood rather than current fashions.

So if you're ever in town, drop in to whichever pub he's playing at. And prepare to be bowled over by a zanny individual with an offbeat sense of humour and an incredible knack of playing the song you've been wanting to hear the entire evening.
