This week let us hang out with Mukul at `Shezan'which has cool and comfy interiors and just perfect to hang out if you are not in the right spirits. The people lazing out there, will brighten your day with their juicy tit-bits. Don't be surprised if you happen to overhear about the owner's of various restaurants in the city. You know like.... which owner's daughter's eloped with whom; how the hot dogs have deteriorated in what eatery because the proprietor's turned a `sot' and the likes. But first, let's hear from Mukul about those yummy steaks.I had heard the steaks in Shezan were out of this world because the cook had been nicked from Only Place. "Well did you?" I asked Saleem (owner of the joint). Very politely, of course. Not that it bothered me any. Corporate head-hunters are doing it all the time. Like you don't go up to the chairman of Lipton and tell him his tea's good because he's pinched Brooke Bond's general manager.
Besides, Saleem had a point. "But the place had closed down at the time," he said, "The staff were out of jobs, so what's wrong if I take on a few?" Nothing as far as I was concerned because right then the Chateaubriand Steak (done well and smeared generously with freshly stung mustard sauce) was too busy melting in my mouth. The Chicken Steak must have been pulling a similar stunt behind the lips of Mistress Mine since she looked like she couldn't care less about any kitchen shehnanigans either.
The moral, gentle newcomer to the city of diminishing retorts, is if you find yourself of an afternoon parked inside the cool and tiled, hut-like, no-frills ambience of Shezan, to immediately order these two entres. Only after that follow it up if you wish to with a selection of Reshmi, Haryali, Kalmi and Chicken Tikka Kababs as we did, along with a small metal handi of Mutton Biryani. Then listen to Saleem's son, Altaf, answer your unasked question by replying that the reason is because they always make their masalas themselves. Nod sagely again if you feel like and reach for the plate of Strawberry Pie With Cream. ("That's Fresh Strawberry Pie With Cream," insists Altaf on the phone even as I write this).
I'm so glad to hear they deliver. And not just in the usual two-kilometre radius. If they feel you're a regular, they'll yank themselves out of the local Lakshman Rekha and bring it you with bells on. Want to cook it yourself at home? Pick the raw material off their cold storage which is on the premises.

Sorry folks! For being a spoil sport, we could not let the kitty out of the bag for some of you gossip mongers (no offence meant). But nothing to beat those `Steaks'. Agree!
