Back to Previous PageThis week Mukul decided to lunch at Tycoons in Infantry Road. He wants to know what does one usually look for before going to an eatery. In his opinion it is the location, ambience, decor, service, food quality, price and extras --- need not be in the same order. Let's lunch with Mukul and see how Tycoons fit in this classical and linear way of reckoning.
Location: Central and, therefore, down town. Ample space is there for parking. Score eight on a scale of ten.
Ambience: From its reputation, apparently upmarket. From what I found on a weekday lunch hour there was no reason to qualitatively justify this. The flip side is, too much top-end atmosphere can also intimidating and rob a meal of its value for money. That it wasn't. But cosy, yes. Score six.
Decor: Notwithstanding what the little preamble in the menu might say about the design element, interior or its recurring leitmotif, this is nowhere visibly discernible. Fortunately, decor by itself is low on the list of patron priority and very few come away remembering wall murals and the like, no matter how post-modern. Score four.
Service: It's excellent. Not overbearing; not lighting up your chin in the rush to light your cigarette; not piling more ladles of food than you care for at one go; but discreet, polite and continuously present in the background. Score Nine.
Food quality: I'd imagine this to be the highest priority in an eater-outer's mind and, here, he or she would not get disappointed. For the nonce I can only vouch (and highly recommend) the Prawn Curry Masala, Chicken Kalimirchi, a mushroom and bell-pepper dish and the pudina rotis but now I'm willing to try anything there. Score nine.
Price: Higher than average. But worth it. Score seven.
Extras: Some go for these and some don't so this is very subjective. Personally I don't mind a live band or a crooner or muzak or a finely turned out buffet alternative or funky lights or even a rose on the way out but perhaps you do. In which case you'll like the place. Score six.
Overall score: Seven or ten. I can live with that comfortably.
