The Stretch-Limo buffet table

Let us take a drive around the stretch-limo buffet at Lanai - the 24 hour coffee shop with Mukul our ace driver. The ambience is cool for a 24-hour coffee shop with its cane, rattan and bamboo work. Lay back and take a tour. On to Mukul........

I had aerially surveyed the stretch-limo buffet scene that disappeared into the horizon earlier and already decided what I would casually lust after later.

In ascending order of importance these were Border (a vegetable and fruit salad), Roast Leg of Lamb (roasted lamb leg, what else?) and Fish Anarkali (this more so after I came to know to the fish was Bekti, which makes suckers out of even half-bongs like me). And I wasn't half wrong in my choice; the better half being, of course, the Bekti. Try it because you only die once with a smile lingering on your lips.

"Time for seconds," I went for the veg section and helped myself to Keshari Shahi Paneer, Dum Alu Kashmiri, Sweet and Sour Vegetables and Dahi Vada. What I deliberately didn't help to was the Gobi Manchurian. Chef Makin later explained to me the amazing reproductive habits of this ultrafecund dish which in so short a time has spawned itself into every cranny of eating places. Gobi apparently is universal, it is available through the year, pleasantly tangy to the palate, and offends neither vegetarians or non who want to eat out want to eat out on the weekend. What better vegetable then to masquerade into a Manchurian? At last I knew the secret of its success.

Over coffee (no desert because I have a fake bad tooth, remember?) me friend mused that I seemed to have a pretty cushy job; eating out all over the place and then getting paid for writing about it. Sneaky guy, putting his finger on the dot like that. Yes, I had to admit, it was a bit of scam really.

Before things got stickier, we changed the subject to the new two-in-one thingy they're opening shortly with continental and frontier cuisine being served on two sides of a see-thru kitchenette in between. Phew.
